Who is this lesson for? 
This is a good lesson for 4th ESO students who would have already seen these structures in previous sessions. This gives them an opportunity to put them into practice in a real, significant context. 

What is this lesson for?
Alphabet soups come very handy for when you are teaching vocabulary, and can also lead to introducing grammatical items. I have used an alphabet soup in this micro-lesson to introduce the topic of illnesses and also to talk about present perfect and past simple

ALPHABET SOUP BASED MICRO-LESSON: GOING TO THE DOCTOR'S

1. Take a look at the alphabet soup. Are you able to find the vocabulary below? 

CHICKENPOX - INFLUENZA - DIABETES - PNEUMONIA - COLD

2. Have you ever had any of these illnesses? Discuss with your parter using the present perfect and past simple structures provided below. 

- Have you ever had chickenpox?

- No, I have never had chickenpox. What about you?

- Yes, I had the chickenpox when I was 9 years old! I didn't go to school for a whole week!

- And have you ever had a cold?

- Yes, I had a cold last month. What about you?

- No, I have never had a cold. 

3. Now, try to fill in the gaps with the words you found. Is there any other word for influenza?
